Empowering Futures: BASIC's Success Stories and How You Can Help

Dear BASIC supporters,
Since 1993, BASIC has been dedicated to empowering learners in the Borrego Springs community. We are reaching out to you to share some of our success stories, made possible with your support, and to invite you to join us in making an even greater impact in the year to come.
Success Story: Meet Mia, a bright young student who struggled with her reading skills. Through BASIC’s summer Learning Academy, she received the personalized teaching she needed to learn to read. Today, Mia is confident, engaged, and excelling in her studies.
“My Daughter Mia has a BIG imagination and loves books. She had the basics down but I could still tell that she “made up” most of the story to compensate for what she could not read. Being a working mom, I was not always able to provide all the support she needed nor was I able to pinpoint what she needed. The BASIC program did just that!! The weeks she spent at BASIC in the summer reading program gave her the tools and support she needed to reach her grade level. She went from reading below her age group at the start of BASIC ACADEMY, to when school started, she began to read above grade level with the highest growth in AR Reading. She now loves to read, just to READ!! Her imagination is bigger and BASIC taught her to break down the story one chapter at a time.” – A thankful parent
The Problem: Mia’s story is not unique. Many students in our community face similar challenges but lack access to the resources and support that are crucial for their academic success. This gap in educational support leads to long-term consequences, affecting their future opportunities and overall well-being.
The Solution: By donating to BASIC’s Cradle to Graduation (C2G) programs, you can ensure that more students like Mia receive the help they need to reach their full potential. Your contribution will help fund educational materials, scholarships, and mentorship that directly benefit the children of Borrego Springs. This year alone, your support allowed us to move 44 students toward grade-level proficiency at the summer Learning Academy, provided 74 children age 0 – 5 with free monthly quality children books through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, helped 25 parents engage in reading therefore enhancing their child’s literacy skills through the Latino Family Literacy Project, awarded 46 college students $86K in scholarships as well as mentorship.
