Maureen Patricia Kirby

With family by her side, Maureen Patricia Kirby passed awat peacefully on November 7, 2024. Born in Sprinfield, Massachusetts, Maureen was proud of her Irish roots, tracing her heritage to her father's birthplace in Rosscarbery, Ireland, and family ties to Irish revolutionary Michael Collins and Irish-American hero Commodore John Barry. She recently celebrated her heritage by obtaining her Irish passport, a lifelong dream fulfilled.

She dedicated her life to education, earning her Associate of Arts degree from Marymount College in 1967, a Bachelor of Arts from Florida Atlantic University in 1970, where she was a member of Delta Gamma, and a Master of Education from Florida Atlantic University in 1971. Her traching career spanned 35 years, including time in Florida and the Philippines with the Department of Defense, and 30 years with San Diego City Schools, where she retired. She was an advocate for special needs students and a resource teacher focused on race and human relations, roles in which she worked tirelessly to foster inclusivity and understanding.

A loving wife of 41 years and a devoted mother, Maureen was deeply respected and chreished by her many friends and family. In honor of her Irish roots, a memorial service will be held around St. Patrick's Day in 2025.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Joseph Tatusko, and her son, Patrick "Paddy" Tatusko.
