There are new faces at the Borrego Springs Unified School District, who are ready to teach and change the lives of our wonderful students!
Seth Shaffer is our new 2nd grade teacher and he is excited to be here. He is from Valley Center and he attended Cal State University San Marcos where in addition to his teaching credential, he also received his BA in history.
Seth chose to teach here in Borrego Springs because of his positive childhood memories of hiking and spending time in the natural beauty of our community. He is impressed with the kindness of the folks he has met here – especially the families of his students. This year he wishes to focus on how he can be the best teacher possible and have the most positive impact on his students’ lives. Something special about Seth – he plays many instruments!
Rachel Alpern is our new 1st grade teacher. She comes to us from Encinitas where she worked as a substitute teacher for 10 years. Rachel attended Cal State University San Marcos, and this is her first very own classroom!
She is thrilled to be in Borrego Springs and is impressed with how kind and friendly everyone is. Rachel’s goal is to help her students reach their potential. Something special about Rachel – she is crazy about Disney!
Alyssa Rodriquez is our new middle/high school counselor, and her job duties include academic, college/career and social/emotional counseling. She hails from Brawley and attended undergrad at San Diego State University and then the University of San Diego for her PPS Credential.
Alyssa chose to work here in Borrego Springs because she comes from a small town, and she has wanted to work in a small community school such as ours. She appreciates that most everyone has grown up with one another here in Borrego and we feel like one big supportive family. Alyssa’s focus will be on advocating for her students, giving them a voice and teaching them resilience.
Something special about Alyssa – she is a trained dancer and would have become an NBA cheerleader if counseling hadn’t called her!
