BSUSD's Proposition GG
On the Road to Improvement, Your Tax Dollars at Work
Last updated 9/22/2024 at 8:30am
Since the passage of California Proposition GG, a bond measure aimed at revitalizing the aging Borrego Springs Schools, significant strides have been made to ensure the district's infrastructure is modernized to meet the needs of current and future students. The Bond Measure, initiated in 2018 by Superintendent Dr. Mark Stevens, passed with strong community support and secured $8.6 million in funds for critical upgrades to facilities that have not seen substantial improvements in decades.
With clipboard in hand and hardhat on her head, the indomitable Chief Business Officer Jessica Gillespie has successfully led the project forward. She has worked tirelessly to oversee the budgeting, planning, and implementation phases, ensuring that each dollar from the bond is utilized effectively. Her meticulous approach has not only kept the project on schedule but has also ensured transparency in the allocation of resources.
The Bond Oversight Committee, a group of dedicated community members tasked with monitoring expenditures, has also played a pivotal role in ensuring accountability throughout the process. The committee has collaborated closely with Gillespie, offering oversight and guidance, and together they have fostered trust between the school district and the Borrego Springs community. These community members to be thanked are: Diane Johnson, Tammy Baker, Joe Del Bono, Diana Del Bono, Urmi Ray and Karl Kirkman.
Recently completed projects for Phase 1 of the project include:
replacement of two elementary classroom
installation of shade structures and Solar panels at all schools
remodeling of the drop-off and pick-up parking lot at the elementary school (safety issue!)
perimeter fencing at all schools
modernization of six classrooms at the high school
remodeling of the high school library
xeriscape gardening at the high school
underground plumbing repairs
modernization of staff lounge and bathrooms at high school
new electrical, AC and furniture at the high school
Phase 2, scheduled to be completed in the winter of 2025, includes remodeling of the high school science lab, art classroom, media-tech classroom, life skills classroom and cafeteria. This phase is funded with grants as the Proposition GG Funds have been spent.
Future projects will focus on the athletic and the auto shop facilities.
BSUSD would like to thank the community of Borrego Springs for your support of our schools.
