It was a very tough decision for Coach Tim White to leave his position as Football Coach and Lead Math Teacher to take on the new and challenging role of TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment), a position which will lead to a Vice Principal position at the Borrego Springs High School after two years of schooling. The Borrego Springs Unified School District has agreed to cover the cost of Coach's two years of education if he commits to two years of administrative duty at BSUSD. He signed on the dotted line.

The ever popular and highly effective math teacher and coach wrestled with the decision for quite a while before deciding that perhaps his skills as a coach could transfer to work with teachers and students on a different level. Perhaps he could help improve the academic performance of our students just as he had taken our football team to the finals. Perhaps his skills as a coach could assist him in working with teachers and students on discipline, setting goals and achieving success.

Coach White will continue to serve as Math Chair, Athletic Director, Assistant Football Coach and the Southern Conference President of CFI. In addition, he will teach three periods a day for which he is quite happy as he wishes to maintain close contact with students. Coach White understands that relationships with students are at the core of any school success. As the motto goes, "Students don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." This is what defines Coach White and this is what is at the core of his success as a teacher and coach.

Coach White came to BSUSD 10 years ago from Julian High School after years of teaching in large schools and districts. He chose Borrego because he realized the impact a teacher can have in a small rural community such as ours where students need role models, guidance and coaching. His appreciation for BSUSD was such that he and his wife Carmen transferred their two sons to our district as well. They have both graduated and are on their way to successful careers.

As Coach White embarks on this new journey, his fans will be cheering him on. The challenge will be keeping up on his administrative studies while walking the halls of the Middle/High Schools in a different role. His focus on discipline, accountability and enforcement of school rules will most definitely have a positive effect on our schools.

While Andy Macuga takes over as Football Coach (Go, Andy!), we will still see Coach White at the games as assistant coach in his usual serious and encouraging manner.

Come on down on a Friday night to wish our team well and to congratulate Coach White on his new challenge. It should be an exciting year!
