BSUSD: Welding Grant

The Borrego Springs Unified School District (BSUSD) received a $ 2,000 grant from Fabricators & Manufacturers Association for a one week welding class. BSUSD was the only school in San Diego and Riverside counties selected for this grant.
This was a fast-paced course covering shop safety, welding and use of power tools and how to design and build a project. Students learned how a manufacturing process works, and each student had to produce a finished project by the end of the week.
Veridiam Inc. in El Cajon welcomed us on a plant tour to see what manufacturing careers looks like. They were able to see what skills they would need and were able to ask questions on the different career paths in manufacturing. They saw parts for Boeing Aircraft, Nuclear Power, and Medical equipment all being made.
The students all met their goal and made some very impressive projects. We finished the week off with a BBQ to celebrate their success.
