"Food For Thought"

Ok Borrego so I’m going to address something that’s been on my mind for a long time and now even more so that we have two local families that have been displaced from their homes! The issue is the lack of long term rentals in our community!

Now, don’t get me wrong, I completely understand the obstacles with long-term renting, and the benefits of short-term renting however, this has become a huge problem, not only our community but also communities everywhere. Even our schools have a hard time finding teachers, partly because, there are very few long-term, affordable, rentals available in this town. I personally know families who have had to move out of Borrego because there is nowhere to rent long term.

Back to our two local families. We can donate clothes, items, money, our love etc but if they can’t find somewhere to permanently live, then what future will they and other families in Borrego have?

I have heard that there are more than 200 short term rentals available here! I’m sorry, but if people care about the future of Borrego, it starts with taking care of our locals, who live, work, and send their children to school at our schools! Without housing there won’t be a future.

Also think about young adults that have graduated high school here and can’t afford to move out of town or would like to live and work locally. What options do they have? Either to stay at home living with their parents or move away, which is getting harder and harder to do.

Food for thought… and action!
