The Borrego Springs Youth and Seniors Center announced a new addition to the Board of Directors, Maris Brancheau.
Maris is a practicing attorney and long-time Borrego Springs resident. She was formerly a reporter for the Borrego Sun. She is also a Trustee for the Anza-Borrego Foundation.
Maris is a powerful advocate for early childhood education and quality day care services. Having these services for her daughter from the Borrego Springs Children’s Center allowed her to begin her career as a newspaper writer.
Maris moved to Borrego Springs in 2002, at the age of 25.
“As a single mom working full-time for the Borrego Sun community newspaper, I counted on the Borrego Springs Children’s Center to provide quality care for my daughter. Literally, the Children’s Center was a life saver.”
In 2011, Maris left the valley to attend law school. Now that her daughter Sita is a student at Stanford University, Maris has come home to Borrego Springs. Maris is engaged to retired Sheriff’s Sergeant Carlos Medina who was the Resident Deputy in Borrego Springs for many years.
As a Board Member for the B.S. Youth and Seniors Center, Maris is dedicated to ensuring the town has a safe place for children to be while their parents are working.
She holds a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and a J.D. from California Western School of Law in San Diego. She is licensed by the State Bar of California.
The BSYSC is grateful to have such an accomplished and passionate Board Director and collectively we say to Maris, “Thank you, and welcome home!”
