It has been over a month since a devastating fire torched through and burned down the historic De Anza Country Club, which sustained nearly $2 million worth of damage, and many are curious to know if the cause of the fire has yet been determined.

The Borrego Sun was told that after a thorough look over the evidence and remains of the Club, the investigation found that it was indeed not the work of arson. There is no further information about the cause at this time, other than talks of erecting a tent for trivia nights and for gatherings of members.

The fire that took place on October 30, destroyed multiple areas including the Bighorn Room, Coyote Den, ballroom, offices, locker rooms, and outdoor seating. The golf shop, however, was fortunately spared. There were no reports of injuries and Cal Fire kept the blaze controlled so that it did not spread to any of the nearby homes or vegetation in the area.

After the fire, San Diego County District 5 Supervisor Jim Desmond also made a visit down to Borrego Springs to the De Anza Country Club to assess the damages along with his team.

More information in the coming issue of the Borrego Sun.
