A 16-year-old was killed on July 30 after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his skateboard in Warner Springs, a California Highway Patrol Officer said.

According to CHP, the incident occurred around 8:05 p.m. on State Route 79, north of Peralta Drive in Warner Springs.

The teen was riding a skateboard north in the southbound lane when he was struck by a grey Mitsubishi, driven by a 74-year-old man who was driving southbound on the highway.

“The driver of the Mitsubishi was unable to avoid the skateboarder and the Mitsubishi struck the skateboarder, causing life threatening injuries,” said Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California High Patrol.

The skateboarder was transported to Inland Valley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries, according to CHP.

He was identified as Anthony Perluss, who was a resident of Warner Springs and had previously attended the local school before moving to nearby Anza, where he had attended Hamilton High School.

The driver of the Mitsubishi and a passenger, a 70-year-old woman, were not injured in the crash.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The preliminary investigation revealed alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

A GoFundMe has been set up by Anthony Perluss’ mom, Tina Lawson. The fundraiser has a goal of $13,500, and so far, it has raised over $11,500.
