Twenty-Six People Found in Tractor Trailer

Border Patrol agents found 26 immigrants inside a tractor trailer at an immigration checkpoint near the Salton Sea on Feb. 12.
The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m., where the 32-year-old truck driver and all 26 immigrants, were later arrested.
“The undocumented immigrants were locked and trapped inside this tractor-trailer in below 45 degree weather with no safety restraints,” Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez said in a news release.
“This smuggling organization had no regard for the safety of the people they were smuggling,” she added. “Fortunately, our agents were able to remove them from that potentially life threatening situation.”
The driver presented a California driver’s license, which later turned out to be fake, authorities said. He was later identified as a Mexican national “illegally” present in the United States.
