Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 86 immigration check-point in Salton City arrested two men in connection with smuggling methamphetamine Feb. 10.
The incident occurred at around 2:55 p.m., when two men, a 25-year-old and an 18-year-old driving a blue Chevy Silverado pickup truck approached the checkpoint. A Border Patrol K-9 unit alerted to the vehicle and it was waved along for further inspection.
During secondary inspection, agents found a murky substance in the fuel tank. After further investigation, the substance tested positive for characteristics of liquid methamphetamine.
The weight and value of the substance have not yet been determined. The identities of the men were not provided by Border Patrol.
“This seizure highlights the importance of our checkpoints. It also speaks to the outstanding work that Border Patrol agents do on a daily basis to keep our country safe and protect communities,” said Gloria I. Chavez Chief Patrol Agent of the El Centro Sector via news release.
The suspects were identified as United States citizens, and were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) custody, along with the methamphetamine and vehicle.
