After what was supposed to be just a relaxing time around a little campfire, turned slightly disastrous after it had gotten away, causing a much larger fire.

At around 10 a.m. Sunday Oct. 27, the Borrego Springs Fire Protection District responded to a fire on Glorietta Canyon Road and Borrego Springs Road.

They were quickly on the scene, getting blaze under control before it spread.

The cause of the fire was a little campfire getting away from the camper, which grew to approximately ΒΌ acre, according to Fire Cheif John Hardcastle.

Hardcastle urges all that when having a campfire, constant vigilance is necessary. This includes building your fire far from other flammable materials. Also, having a shovel and a water source nearby. Do not light campfires when the relative humidity is very low.
