On Friday July 19, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Corey Sides, 43, shot his mother Ann Sides, 71, and then turned the gun on himself at her home that they shared in the 2900 block of Double O Road in Borrego Springs.

There is no toxicology information to report at this time.

A couple of days prior on July 17, Sheriff's deputies and the Borrego Springs Fire District firefighters responded to a 911 call from a neighbor, concerned that she had not seen either of the Sides since Friday July 12.

When they arrived at the scene, they found the bodies of Corey and Ann Sides, both with apparent trauma to their bodies.

It comes as a shock to the community as to why and how this could happen. The mother and son are remembered to be nice and polite people, who were frequent visitors to local businesses.
