California Governor Candidate John Chiang commented on the border wall plan by the Trump administration an "idiotic idea," during his visit to the Imperial valley.

As a part of his year-long campaign across the state, Chiang toured various locations, including the Salton Sea.

He lunched with local labor union leaders; he toured Imperial Valley College Solar fields; and after that, finished off by visiting the local Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center.

Candidate Chiang said he has visited 33 counties, and stopped at 115 cities in his year-long road trip. He is currently the state’s treasurer.

“Building up a wall is idiotic. Mexico is California’s largest trading partner. Why do you put up a wall with your largest trading partner? That’s where the president and the majority in congress are very, very short-sighted. This is a global economy,” Chiang said.

Elections will be held Nov. 6. Incumbent Democratic Governor Jerry Brown is not eligible to run for re-election due to term limits.
