Three homes were destroyed in a four-alarm fire, leaving several people without a home.

Multiple fire crews responded to the 3400 Block of Thermal Avenue Tuesday Nov. 7 near the Salton Sea Beach at around 6:30 a.m.

Two additional structures were exposed to the fire and damaged, but were not completely destroyed. Everyone was able to get out of their homes in time.

A total of 11 engines, 45 firefighters, and 30 other personnel were at the scene.

Crews managed to contain the fire at around 10:00 a.m., and were on the scene to clean up and be on fire watch for about three hours.

The Red Cross was activated to help the displaced families.

“Winds were blowing about 15 miles per hour that was a contributing factor. They initiated and additional alarm assignment for request. Request were made and additional units from Imperial County did respond to Salton Sea Beach to help distinguish the fire,” Fire Chief with Imperial County Fire Tony Rouhotas said.

Though crew officials have an idea of how the fire began, the exact cause is still under investigation.
