Choir at Borrego Springs Middle High School

Every Monday and Wednesday after school in Room 7, the sounds of different pitches and voices can be heard, echoing through the hallways.

That is because choir has been brought back to Borrego Springs Middle/High School, thanks to principal Katherine Girvin.

On-site speech service provider Melissa Demuth is the lucky volunteer for choir and is happy to help.

“I love choir, and I am a strong believer in having music in your life and what a difference it makes,” Demuth said. “I’m hoping that this will help some of the students who need an outlet, who want a musical voice. Music makes a difference and I am happy to be a part of it.”

On Monday’s at 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday’s at 3:30 p.m., students sign in at the door and stay for about an hour, learning a variety of things.

It starts off with a meet and greet, along with announcements, followed by warm-ups of the major scale.

Demuth also assists the students with pitch training and matching, as well as ear training.

The choir could use more voices, and anyone from grades 6-12 are welcome.

For more information, contact high school principal Katherine Girvin at 760-767-5357 ext. 355.
