Motorcyclist Killed In Crash Near Julian Was Retired Cop

The motorcyclist who died after he lost control and crashed into a parked car on route 79 Saturday Oct. 14, was identified as retired La Mesa police officer Tom Ruth.
At around 2:30 p.m., north of Japacha Fire Road, Ruth crossed the double yellow lines, and side swiped a truck, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
Ruth retired in 2009.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom's wife during this difficult time," a statement by the La Mesa Police Officers' Association, said.
