Orange flags stick up from the ground and string surrounds an area of land behind the Borrego Art Institute, where varieties of fruit will be planted for the new fruit farm.

Borrego Springs residents Jim Wermers, Clark Volmar, Jack Sims and Albert Dean have voluntarily staked out the layout of where fruits will be planted.

Sims said they hope the fruit orchard will be planted within a month so the community can enjoy organic and healthy alternatives for the upcoming season.

The fruit orchard will feature a variety of fruits - apples, strawberries, and grapes.
