Flood Damage Near S22

The Borrego Springs area was covered with dark gray clouds Thursday Sept. 7, as heavy rain and sounds of grumbling thunder made its way across. A flash flood and severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in San Diego until 8:00 p.m.
Flooding of mud and rock debris flowed heavily between Pegleg and Aroyo Salado Campground, closing the S22 Borrego Salton Seaway.
Road damage was caused on the Anza-Borrego Badlands area.
Locations impacted include Borrego Springs, State Route 78 between Borrego Springs Road and Ocotillo Wells, Highway S-22 between Ranchita and Borrego Springs, Borrego Palm Canyon, Highway S-22 between Borrego Springs and Imperial County Line and the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation.
