With the threat of wildfires starting to pick up due to hot summer weather combined with dry vegetation, the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County is putting together workshops in Palomar Mountain, Warner Springs and Valley Center areas.

Saturday Sept. 9, there will be a workshop hosted by the Stone Ridge Fire Safe Council from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Stone Ridge at Warner Springs Estates Clubhouse, located at 35109 Hwy 79, Warner Springs.

The workshop is free and a light breakfast and lunch is included.

In this one-day course, attendees will have a better understanding of what to do if they are near the area of a wildfire. They will also learn the principles used by firefighters in suppressing wildland fires and protecting structures.

Participants will learn about fire behavior prediction and apply this knowledge to the community's topography, fuels, weather, and the community's Fire Safe condition including the construction of homes. The training will include a field trip to selected homes to do a site assessment on lessons learned, and discussions about evacuation and survival tips.

If you would like to attend, register by contacting Britney Munoz at 619-562-0096 or by email at britney.munoz@rcdsandiego.org.
