Ramona Food and Clothes Closet awarded recent high school graduate Ocean Laidlaw with the Jeff Funk Community Spirit Scholarship.
Laidlaw, a Ranchita resident, is one of two students awarded for their community involvement this year. At Warner Junior Senior High School, Laidlaw took on many leadership roles, serving as the ASB secretary, vice president and treasurer, and was also the president of the school's Future Farmers of America chapter for two years, and the vice president of FFA's San Diego Section.
In the fall, Laidlaw will attend California State University Fresno and plans to be a large-animal veterinarian.
Ramona Food and Clothes Closet recipients receive $2,250 per semester for four years. The Jeff Funk Community Spirit Scholarship, established in 2015, is for students in the service area, who have been accepted in a two- or four-year college, university or vocational school. The service area includes Ramona, Julian, Santa Ysabel, Ranchita, Borrego and Warner Springs. For more information about the nonprofit, go to foodandclothescloset.org.
