Last updated 8/21/2017 at 1:17pm
The Volcan Valley Apple Farm, Julian's largest and best U-Pick apple orchard, is opening its gates for the 2017 U-Pick harvest season Friday Aug. 25, located at 1284 Julian Orchards Dr.
They will be open Friday through Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $1 and children 5 and under are free. U-Pick bags are $12, and can hold up to 7 lbs of delicious apples. The farm is also dog friendly.
Volcan Valley Apple Farm covers the local countryside with 7,300 apple trees bursting with seven apple varieties: Gravenstein, Gala, Jonathans, Empire, Fuji, Pippin and Golden Delicious.
This year, the apples are bigger, tastier and more plentiful than ever due to the return of heavy winter rain, lots of summer sunshine and plenty of TLC by the VAF crew, led by Orchard Manager, Emily Dreiling.
The crew has worked extremely hard this year, by improving the long rows for easier access, better parking for visitors and a new picnic area, where everyone can have a serving of Granny's Kitchen apple pie, which will be on sale.
