Chamber Honors Best of Julian

Julian Chamber of Commerce recognized outstanding local businesses, individuals and organizations at its annual Julian Merchants Picnic and Awards Barbecue July 19 at Menghini Winery.
The 2017 Merchant of the Year award went to Ryan and Gina Cross, owners of Julian Mining Company. They received a proclamation, flowers, a key to the city and banners.
Diana Garrett was presented the newly instituted Lifetime Achievement Award. The award honors Garrett’s years as a dedicated volunteer for numerous community events and organizations, and her service as a Julian Chamber Board Member.
The President’s Award went to LuAnn Boylan.
Dave Klumph and Tracy Turner shared the honor of being named Volunteer of the Year. Klumph received the award for a second year in a row.
Business Excellence Awards went to The Mountain Gypsy, Julian Pie Company, Miner’s Diner, The Barn Vintage Marketplace, The Warm Hearth, Julian Bookhouse and The Birdwatcher.
Community Service Awards, which recognize groups or clubs that do an outstanding job of enhancing the community of Julian, were presented to Julian Library, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Country Christmas Decorating Committee, Sons of the American Legion, James Hubbell and the Ilan Lael Foundation, Volcan Mountain Foundation, California Wolf Center and the Julian Triangle Club.
Julian Doves and Desperados put on an entertaining skit, bringing their unique style of Old West fun to the event. Several speakers gave informative presentation, including Jim Wayman, who talked about how events help promote local businesses; Robin Boland, who spoke about social media; and Sheriff’s Department Crime Specialist Barbara Wallace, who gave an informational report.
The Chamber also thanked numerous volunteers who helped support the awards picnic, in addition to Candied Apple Pastry Company for catering the event, and Julian Pie Company for providing dessert.
