Grass fires were ignited by lightening Saturday around Sunshine Summit and Oak Grove, along state Route 79, several miles north of Warner Springs, according to Cal Fire. According to the weather service, by late afternoon, the region from Warner Springs to Palomar Mountain had been hit with 31 lightning strikes.

A brief downpour helped firefighters stop one blaze at about two acres, Cal Fire Capt. Jon Heggie said. The other two fires were smaller.

Sunday, July 9, saw some parts of Borrego Springs cooled down by a brief, gentle shower, following on from Saturdays' mist surrounding the town.

Todays temperatures will be cooler at a maximum predicted temperature of 107°F, compared to Mon. July 11, which recorded temps of 112°.
