State Talks - Salton Sea

Last updated 7/27/2017 at 4:41pm

The state of California sponsored a community workshop at the Indio Performing Arts Center to talk about the first phase of the 10-year Salton Sea management program.

The forum explained what the state is doing to assist residents, and described what the state is doing to improve the sea. Attendees heard from prominent Salton Sea scientists and elected officials.

One of the projects is already underway at the south end of the sea. The Red Hill Bay Project by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is restoring habitat while using less water. "We believe there is an opportunity to invest public monies in a way that protects the public health from dust, creates habitat and also enhances recreational value at those marina communities," said Phil Rosentrater, Executive Director of the Salton Sea Authority

If you'd like to voice your opinion about the Salton Sea, the next meeting is on Wednesday, July 12 at 5:30 pm at the Rancho Mirage Public Library.
