For many residents, the RAAM racers speeding through town are a distant memory, for the competitors, the grueling race continues.

For one team, there is more then winning at stake, their aiming for a place in the history books as well, as Irish duo Graham Macken and Declan Brassil, accompanied by a 10-person crew, could become the first Irish team to complete RAAM.

Determined to complete the event in seven days and having already watched as several teams have dropped out, have kept up a steady pace.

The duo's official team name is Ardstone/Tayto Park LCRC after their two main sponsors and they are participating to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

June 23 saw the team passing the Mississippi river into Illinois and storming ahead of the British team and on the way to the finish. They are averaging 16.8 mph while covering an average of 368.3 mi per day and have so far covered 2538 mi.
