A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help the family for Ranger Steve Bier with final expenses.
“I shared many beautiful days in the desert with Steve. This is a profound loss of a man who was larger than life.”, states Ernie Cowan, outdoor columnist for the San Diego Union-Tribune, on the Go Fund Me page.
One student from West Valley Community College, who met Bier during one of his class trips as part of a park management program, said "it's heart breaking to know we've lost him. I have to say, I saw him and thought 'That's the kind of man I want to be, when I get into the parks'.
Bier was a keen photographer and willing ambassador. The local school children created a book showing the work Bier did and the animals to see within the park.
Detectives are still investigating the shooting, with the Park Service acting as lead investigating agency. Further details have yet to be released and the
Memorial services is pending.
At the time of writing, $14,780 of $15k goal had been reached. https://www.gofundme.com/in-memory-of-ranger-steve-bier?ssid=967274198&pos=1
