Tierra del Sol Safari has finally been given permission to return back to its original site just in time for it turning 55 years old this year. Late 2016 saw the Fish and Game Commission reject plans for the Flat-tailed horned lizard to be added to the endangered list, paving the way for 4 x 4 enthusiasts to make use of their specially built facilities at Truckhaven.

There is one last hurdle for the team as officially, the decision by the board has to be posted for a set period. The period doesn’t run out until Feb. 28. Any delays to the process could cause problems for the March 3 – 5 festivities. This year will see two trails in use; a trail in the park running Saturday and a trail up in the hills behind the RedEarth Casino on private property running Friday & Saturday. Approximately forty thousand visitors attend the event with registration proceeds going to charitable organizations to protect the future of off-roading and the sites that they use and enjoy.
