Ten years on from the devastating wildfires that ravaged parts of Southern California and caused the death of two people, saw 1,300 homes destroyed, and tax payers potentially left covering the costs.

Despite three of the fires being caused by SDG&E power lines being blown into vegetation, the utility has requested to charge customers $379 million in expenses, leftover from the 2007 firestorms that ravaged San Diego County.

Public meetings are due to be scheduled in Escondido Jan. 9 at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, one at 2 p.m. and one at 7 p.m., to collect testimony about San Diego Gas & Electric Co. plan to bill customers.
