A pedestrian was killed Saturday, Nov. 26, by a vehicle in an area not far from the Salton Sea, officials said.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. firefighters responded to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Highway 111 and Avenue 66 in Mecca, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire news release.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the crash. An incident log from the agency says that the vehicle involved in the crash was a grey Nissan, but provides few other details about what happened.
