Motorcyclist Fatality - Ocotillo Wells -UPDATE

Gary Schultz, a 56-year-old Poway man who was camping in the desert, suffered fatal injuries crashing his motorcycle on the 6400 block of Split Mountain Road over the weekend.
Schultz was riding his dirt bike on a roadway when he lost control, hit a sand berm and was thrown off the motorcycle. Schultz’s body was found shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday by other campers who were riding their motorcycles, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Witnesses spotted a downed rider off Split Mountain Road near Mariposa Drive in Ocotillo Wells about 9:15 a.m Sunday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, paramedics confirmed the motorcyclist was dead at the scene and it is currently unclear what led to the rider going off the road.
Investigators don’t suspect another vehicles involvement and the victim has yet to be officially identified.
