The state has announced its recommendation for the CV Link 50-mile pathway, to receive $24.3 million in grant money.

The California Transportation Commission staff released its recommendations for projects to be funded in the 2017 round of the Active Transportation Program late Monday. Giving the mixed-use 50-mile pathway the single largest amount of funding out of more than $158 million in grants to be distributed to 50 projects statewide.

If approved, the project will have all necessary funding for the planned pathway's $100 million price tag for construction.

“CV Link fulfills a decade-long vision to connect the Coachella Valley with a hiking and biking path,” Tom Kirk, executive director of the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, the lead agency for the project, said in a statement. “We are grateful that the California Transportation Commission continues to financially support what so many of us have advocated for – a pathway that is transformative for the community by reducing the number of accidents on our roadways that involve pedestrians and cyclists, encouraging people to stay active and helping improve our air quality.”

Staff recommendations go to the California Transportation Commission for approval in December in Riverside.
