Authorities at this stage have no explanation for the reason for the crash as the driver was among 13 people killed in the crash. He said the injured passengers, including the truck driver, sustained wounds ranging from minor to moderate.

Emergency workers used metal ladders to reach the inside of the bus to rescue victims before a tow truck could be used to separate the vehicles.

31 people were taken for treatment at local hospitals and all westbound lanes of the interstate were closed near the crash.

The bus belonged to USA Holiday, a Los Angeles area-based tour company who do regular shuttles to Red Earth Casino. The driver of the coach was one of the company's owners.
