Senator Joel Anderson made a surprise visit to the High School Interact Club yesterday to honor the children's volunteering efforts.

Armed with certificates and personal anecdotes, the Senator made time to have his photo taken with each student and answer any and all questions.

The school board members in attendance took the opportunity to have a few words but the main focus was on the work the children have done for the community in Borrego.

President of the Interact Club Justin Lopez, stated, "It was really nice of him to come down. Borrego is so small but it's great he wants to recognize us." Before leaving the Senator made the unexpected offer of asking the members of the club to get in touch with his office when they leave school, in order to provide them with a letter of recommendation stating their volunteer work.

School Principal Steve Dunn explained how the school "try to provide opportunities, there's no resistance from the kids," when it comes to volunteer work, "the kids are all very good and accepting and I think the community is appreciative of the students work."
