Borrego Sun - Since 1949

American Legion Auxiliary, of Borrego Springs Unit 853, honored a very special young fifth grader at their monthly meeting on Oct. 10.

Miriam Hernandez entered an essay contest, sponsored by the Womens' Auxiliary (VFW), about Americanism. Winning first locally, the Auxiliary sent it off to the County level; where Miriam took first place in her age group. Her essay was entered for the last time at the State level and Miriam Hernandez was awarded the First Place Winner of the State Americanism Essay Contest.

Miriam accepted the award at the Legion with her parents and two younger sisters. Miriam's parents, Luis and Norma Hernandez, expressed that they where very proud of their daughter accomplishments.
