The U.S. Geological Survey have reported a shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was registered early morning, on Wed. Aug. 31 eight miles from Salton City. The temblor occurred at 12:04 a.m. PDT at a depth of 4.3 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 28 miles from Coachella, 29 miles from La Quinta and 31 miles from Indio.
