Roy Dunkin, 51, has been accused of driving drunk and killing 24 year old San Diego resident in a head on crash just outside of Ramona, Aug. 20.
Dunkin is accused of hitting Lucas Riley's Mini Cooper, setting the car on fire; by the time crews arrived on scene, flames had fully engulfed the car and trapped the victim, which prompted a Sig Alert for the northbound and southbound lanes of State Route 67. Following the crash, authorities were seen pulling out beer cans from Dunkin's Chevrolet.
Dunkin, who suffered a broken wrist in the crash, was held on $2 million bail and was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing great bodily injury, pleading not guilty through an attorney.
Riley was a fixture in the San Diego community and spent his time helping others with a ministry group and remembered as a family man.
Shawna Wickwire, Riley's fiancee says the couple were planning on getting married this October. “He was the most caring and loving person I ever have known in my entire life. I have never felt more love for him,” Wickwire said.
Riley's family has set up a GoFundMe as a memorial fund. The money raised will cover funeral expenses.
