Since accepting the Honorary Mayor position two years ago, Sylvana Meeks is getting ready to hand over the reigns to a new Mayor. Although she will be greatly missed in her position, she will continue to be involved in the community.
Meeks is well recognized for her involvement over the years; perhaps most notably for the Miss Borrego Pageant in which she prepares the contestants and organizes the event. Among a long list of volunteering and caring for fellow members in the town, she is currently a member of the Borrego Springs Rotary Club, Treasurer for the Borrego Springs Rotary Foundation Board of Directors, member of the local Sheriff's Citizen's Advisory Group and a member of the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund.
Her personal accolades, among many, include Co-Broker/Owner of Coldwell Banker, credentials as a Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource, Graduate Realtor Institute, e-PRO, Accredited Buyer's Representative and a Certified Residential Specialist. Her years as a realtor earned her an award in the International Diamond Society – "awarded to individual sales associates/representatives who produce a minimum of $165,000 in Closed Adjusted Gross Commission Income or 24 Total Units." Meeks states that she, "feels that working with the local community, both as a volunteer and at Coldwell Banker Borrego, helping locals realize their dreams as well as having the opportunity of home ownership as first time home buyers" is an achievement she is most proud of.
Born and raised in San Diego, Mrs. Meeks graduated from Borrego Springs High and settled down here to start a family after attending Point Loma Nazarene.
When asked, Mrs. Meeks stated that she will miss being Honorary Mayor, "but nothing will really change except for a speech or two." She goes on to state that she "will continue to go to all the events because this town is my family. I will stay involved in the community, attend functions, and volunteer so there will be nothing to miss."
Mrs. Meeks would like to invite to community, locals and visitors to the 51st Borrego Days Desert Festival held October 21 through the 23, stating that "Borrego Days is our kick off and it is a great time to enjoy friends old and new, as well as the parade, music, car show, great food, kids' events and the welcome atmosphere; with the best of Borrego all wrapped up into one weekend."
