Blue Cut Fire - 68% Containment

The Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) on the Landsat 8 satellite captured this image of California's Blue Cut wildfire at 10:36 p.m. local time on Aug. 17, 2016.

The Blue Cut fire in San Bernardino County has consumed just over 37,000 acres, caused the evacuation of close to 82,000 residents, and destroyed 96 single family homes and 213 outbuildings.

Cal Fire said in an update Sat. Aug. 20, that the fire crews have managed to halt the fast moving fire and have the blaze 68 percent contained .

Mandatory evacuations for the communities impacted by the brush fire began to be lifted Friday and so far there are just three areas that remain under mandatory evacuation orders.
