Borrego Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Borrego Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau met for their monthly meeting today, July 19, at 8 a.m.
Erick Lund, CEO and President of San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce, made a presentation to the board regarding a Mutual Chamber Support & Collaboration Proposal he is suggesting Borrego Springs be a part of.
The proposal includes six different areas that the board could chose to collaborate or participate in. These include an Easy County Leadership Program, Collaborative Outbound Travel Program, Collaborative Events, Easy County Government Affairs and Infrastructure and Land Use Committee participation and Workforce and Business Development that will give assistance for grant applications for collaborative events. The Board are considering the proposal and will determine their involvement at the next scheduled board meeting to be held on Sept. 20, at 8 a.m.
Executive Director Linda Haddock announced that she assumed seat no. six on the Borrego Springs Community Sponsor Group, while Bill Berkley will assume seat no. five for the meeting scheduled for Aug. 4, at 4:30 p.m. Members of the community are urged to come and participate.
Mrs. Haddock reported that a Back Country Economic Development Coalition (BCEDC) is forming and the founding chambers will include, Alpine, Borrego Springs, Julian, Ramona and maybe Valley Center. The plan is to create a 501c6 to create, foster and promote a regional collective and coordinated back country experience for the mutual benefit of the member communities. Updates on the coalition will be made available during future chamber board meetings.
Sundowner's for the season have ended with the hope that the Chamber would bring back the Ice Cream Socials for the Summer. At todays meeting, Mrs. Haddock explained that the Chamber will not be doing their beloved socials this year, due to lack of funding. The next Sundowner, usually held at the Borrego Springs Airport, will be at the Boys and Girls Club or Rams Hill Golf Course. More details to come at the next board meeting.
Please note that the Borrego Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau will be closed from Aug. 1 through Sept. 5, Labor Day. The office will reopen on Sept. 6, 2016.
