Save Our Sea Sacramento!

Salton Sea residents came together July 2 for EcoMedia Compass's 'Save Our Sea Sacramento!'. Visitors were encouraged to participate in the event by writing to politicians and celebrities at the various activism stations.

Despite the serious nature of the cause, the emphasis on the day was fun. Their website promised 'MUSIC * ART * SCIENCE * COMMUNITY * FOOD * FUN!' and they certainly delivered.

$80.5 million of the California state budget, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown will be used to finally begin restoration of the Salton Sea including wetland construction with semi-shallow bodies of water being dug to assist with salt removal and increasing water levels. These projects will run alongside infrastructure projects for air quality, renewable energy and habitat expansion being worked on by Imperial County and the Imperial Irrigation District among others. Regardless of recent budget spending, the aim of the day was to make sure interest and finances don't dry up as fast the sea itself.
