Congressmen Juan Vargas (CA-51) and Duncan Hunter (CA-50) introduced the "California New River Restoration Act of 2016" (H.R. 5629) today Thurs. July 7.
This bipartisan bill improves restoration and conservation efforts in the New River in both California and Mexico through the creation of a California New River restoration program.
The New River is historically recognized for its high concentration of pollution which flows north into the United States through Calexico, passes through the Imperial Valley and drains directly into the Salton Sea.
"This bill is an important step in restoring the New River, as well as the Salton Sea", said Hunter. "Building on existing efforts and leveraging proven programs will be key for future success."
