$10.2 million increase to Budget

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a revised $5.36 billion budget Tuesday, for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts July 1, 2016.
The revised budget is a $10.2 million increase over the 2016-17 CAO Recommended Operational Plan presented in May. The bulk of the additional funding is for one-time public safety-related projects.
County Chief Administrative Officer Helen Robbins-Meyer said the budget was one that all San Diegans can be proud of stating “Today’s budget maintains an excellent balance between the fiscal discipline demanded by our residents while also meeting the needs of our most vulnerable population.”
In addition, the Board of Supervisors approved a 2017-18 fiscal year budget of $5.00 billion for planning purposes, and provided spending authority for County administrators in the new fiscal year, until the Board formally adopts the 2016-17 budget, anticipated on August 2, 2016.
The County’s wide-ranging services affect residents in many ways, from providing public safety through the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, which provides police protection for all unincorporated residents and nine of the county’s 18 cities; operating the San Diego County Fire Authority; operating parks and the County’s 33 libraries; offering animal services and public health services; and overseeing disaster preparedness, among other services.
