Borrego Springs Unified honored their teachers and staff at their Annual Teacher Appreciation Party May 19. Superintendent, Martha Deichler organized a great event; catered by El Borrego with music provided by the magnificent Lucky Tongue.

Teacher of the Year - Zachary Metz

Borrego Springs Unified School District (BSUSD) presented the Teacher of the Year award for 2017 to Zachary Metz. Although Metz will be moving at the end of this school year, he exclaimed that "This was so unexpected, I am still a young teacher and I know that I have a lot to learn, but BSUSD has helped me and taught me so much. I appreciate all of you and to those I got to know pretty well, thank you."

Another award presented by BSUSD was to Rachell Wann, a teacher of seventeen years. Mrs. Wann accepted an English position in Tuolumne County and together with her husband, Tony Wann – the daytime bartender at Carlees, will be moving this summer. Mrs. Wann had this to say at the event; Borrego Springs has "been my home and I will miss you all so dearly. My family loves it here and I am so grateful, but a new adventure awaits and we are excited!" The district honors her years of service to the school and her students.
