Thanks for the memories of de Anza and Henry the Truck

The articles in the Jan 16, 2014 Borrego Sun really brought back many memories, especially the de Anza County Club historical stories.

I grew up in Borrego during the late 40s and 50s and spent a large part of one summer shaping the original greens and sand traps by hand as the first nine holes were built. A group of us teenagers used large rakes and shovels to get the greens ready for seeding and installing the first sand in the traps. That was brutal, hot work. We were supervised by the golf course architect and the superintendent.

I also have enjoyed the series by Henry the Truck. Very entertaining and enlightening. Denny DuVall was a tad older but we rode the bus to Julian each day to high school.

Many of the old timers remember my Dad, Carl Vogt. Dad managed the Desert Lodge for Bud Kuhrts and Dad also developed and owned the Lazy V RV Resort and Roundup Cocktail Lounge on Palm Canyon Drive, just East of Christmas Circle.

Thank you for the memories. Growing up we had the majestic Toro Peak and the Santa Rosa mountains to our North and for the past 34 years we see the same peak and mountains from our home in Palm Desert to the south.
