Jim Quinn passed away on March 23 with his loving wife of 35 years, Wendy, at his side. He succumbed to infections related to his battle with multiple diseases and injuries during the past few months.

Mr. Quinn was born in Antioch, California and raised in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. He played football for La Habra High School and went on to major in construction management at Cal State Long Beach. Mr. Quinn served in the Navy during the Vietnam War as an electronics technician aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock.

After his military service and additional college courses, Mr. Quinn embarked on his lifelong career as a general contractor, specializing in residential and restaurant remodels. He was especially proud of designing and building the Quinns’ future retirement home in Borrego Springs in 1993.

Wendy and Jim Quinn began visiting Borrego in the early ’80s, retired in 2004 and moved into their dream home. In his younger years, Mr. Quinn enjoyed golf, tent camping and water skiing. More recently, he became an avid reader, partial to historical novels and action adventures, and continued working his daily crossword puzzles. He was a proud member of the American Legion, VFW and Elks Club.

Per Mr. Quinn’s request, no services will be held. Hosted drinks and snacks will be available in his memory at the Julian American Legion Post 468 on Saturday, April 9 and at the Borrego Springs American Legion Post 853 on Sunday, April 10; both beginning at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org) or the Borrego Springs Rotary Foundation Rams Booster Club/Football.

In addition to Wendy Quinn, Mr. Quinn is survived by his sister, Diana Francis of Casa Grande, Arizona; two brothers, Duane Nelson of Apple Valley, California and Bill Nelson of Bentonville, Arkansas; seven nieces and nephews and twelve great-nieces and nephews.
