“The Potential for Renewable Energy Development to Benefit Restoration of the Salton Sea: Analysis of Technical and Market Potential”, the new report published by The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), estimates the geothermal potential of the Salton Sea to be up to 1,800 MW.

NREL states, “Of the commercially available renewable energy technologies, geothermal, Solar photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating Solar power (CSP) have the greatest technical potential for development.” With funding available through a grant from the State of California Natural Resources Agency, the Salton Sea Authority (SSA) is looking to move forward with the opportunities available to it in harnessing the Salton Sea’s capabilities.
