Deanna D. Young was born in Hood River, OR in 1937 to Dean L. Willey and Doris Dean Willey, and raised in White Salmon, WA.
She attended the University of Washington for one year and then graduated from Principia College in Elsah, IL in 1959. She married E. R. 'Rusty' Young in 1961 and they made their life in Seattle, and more recently wintered in Borrego Springs, CA.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston and a devoted member of and active volunteer for 12th Church of Christ, Scientist in Seattle. Her love of God was equaled only by her love of her family and friends. A lifelong book lover and arts enthusiast, she was a theater and opera patron, and served as a Seattle Art Museum volunteer docent for many years. Deanna was a wonderful mother, a great friend to many, and a loving grandmother.
Mrs. Young was preceded in death by Rusty in 2006, and is survived by her son Dean Young and wife Gretchen, of Kenmore, WA; her daughter Lauren Young and husband Kelly Traw of Seattle; her step daughter Nancy Young and husband Jeff MacDonald of Friday Harbor, WA; her sister Barbara Richmond and husband Scott of West Linn, OR; and grandchildren Alexandria, Jennifer, Natalie, Katherine, Henry and Malia.
At her request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Young's memory can be sent to the Seattle Opera, SAM, Oregon Shakespeare Festival or an organization of your choice.
