Eleven California lawmakers, environmental, labor and business leaders have traveled to Australia to get insight on how the country endured its 12-year Drought that began in 1997 and lasted until 2009. The trip was organized and paid for by the California Foundation on the Environment and Economy just as the state finishes its fourth year of Drought. The nine-day trip began yesterday with the participation of Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León of Los Angeles, Assembly Minority Leader Kristin Olsen, a Republican from Modesto, and California Water Commission member Daniel Curtin. De Leon said that California could learn how to adapt to the extreme weather due to climate change.
